Archons of the Order of St. Andrew

Archons of The Order of St. Andrew of the Ecumenical Patriarchate are churchmen of the Orthodox Christian Faith who bear honorary titles of service to the early Church and the Byzantine Empire. This honor, amongst the highest in Orthodoxy, is bestowed by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople to individuals who over time have exhibited abiding service to the Church.

With the  titular “Offikion” given to the archon, an individual takes on a higher and greater obligation.   As “Defenders of The Faith” archons are charged to honor promote and protect the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Great Church of Christ. Archons have a mandate to defend human rights and religious freedom wherever and whenever those rights and liberties are marginalized.

Archons of the Metropolis of Chicago participate in all religious and community services of the Metropolis of Chicago and have a responsibility to attend the Annual Meeting of the Order. The annual commemoration of the Fall of Constantinople is the primary public presentation co-sponsored by the order in the metropolis which brings to the faithful and the public at large an understanding of the history of Byzantium and the relevance of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the world today.

To interested parishes ,groups and organizations the metropolis provides an Archon’s Speakers Bureau that offers lectures and visual presentations on the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
